The vessel has been used as a symbol for the cycle of life throughout history. From the womb as a container for life and growth; to the urn with the ashes; it references life and death on both a practical and metaphysical level and can be interpreted as a metaphor for the fundamental conditions for human life.

I developed this intimate body of work, ‘Deep within my Heart’, over the past year during a period of profound personal loss. I have been finding solace and connection in the rituals of humanity while the grief took me to unknown territory. Much of my research has been based on how different cultures have crafted ceremonial customs around the wild mystery of death and the afterlife. I have used various natural elements and symbols to explore this in my body of work in the guise of attachments, symbols, and mark making.
